The work of Malta Red Cross is guided by the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
Proclaimed in 1965, these principles define the values and ethics that guide humanitarian action worldwide and ensure that support is delivered with integrity, neutrality, and respect for human dignity.
They are at the heart of everything we do.
Humanity
The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, born of a desire to bring assistance without discrimination to those in need, strives to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found.
Its purpose is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for every individual.
It promotes understanding, cooperation, and lasting peace among all people.

Neutrality
To maintain the trust of all, Malta Red Cross does not take sides in hostilities or engage in political, religious, or ideological controversies.
Neutrality ensures that humanitarian assistance can be delivered safely and effectively in all circumstances.

Independence
Malta Red Cross is independent.
While acting as an auxiliary to public authorities, the organisation maintains the autonomy necessary to act at all times in accordance with humanitarian principles.

Voluntary Service
Malta Red Cross is a voluntary movement, driven by a commitment to humanitarian service rather than the pursuit of profit.
Volunteers and personnel are united by a shared dedication to helping others.

Unity
There is only one recognised Red Cross or Red Crescent Society in each country.
Each Society is open to all and carries out its humanitarian work throughout its territory.

Universality
The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is a global network.
All National Societies have equal status and share equal responsibilities, supporting one another in responding to humanitarian needs worldwide.
