The EU, together with member states, has taken a range of measures to address the challenges created by migration.

In April 2015, the European Council called for an international summit to discuss migration issues with African and other key countries concerned.

This summit will take place in Valletta on 11 and 12 November 2015 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre.

The conference hopes to build on existing cooperative processes between Europe and Africa, particularly the Rabat and Khartoum processes on migration, and the EU-Africa Dialogue on Migration and Mobility.

EU and Africa will work in a spirit of partnership to find common solutions to challenges of mutual interest.

EU member states, countries members of the Rabat and Khartoum processes, observers to the Rabat process, representatives of the African Union commission and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) commission, the United Nations (UN) and the International Office on Migration (IOM) have been invited to join the summit.
